(note: I got the idea for this pattern from Coats & Clarks Book No. 152 (29cents Smile) dated 1964, pg14, Knit Triangle Cap & Mittens. . . B-440.
For size to fit girls ages 5 to 10.
Materials 4 ply yarn;
Knitting needles size straight 10;
Markers
(Note: after you have made one of these, you can experiment with different sizes of yarn and ndls, of course)
Band part of cap/collar
Cast on 72 sts and work in k2, p2 ribbing for 3½ to 4”.
Next: Sl1, k2tog, psso, (k2 tog, bind off one st) 7 times; knit to end of Row.
56 sts
Next: Sl 1, p2 tog, psso (p2 tog, bind off one st in p) 8 times. K1, p17, place marker, puck up and k a st between last st and next st, place marker; p17, k2. 39 sts.
–Anna part of cap/collar
Row 1: Knit across to marker, pick up and k a st between last st and marker, slip marker, k center stitch, slip marker, pick up and k a st between last st and next st, k remaining sts. (2 sts increased)
Row 2: K4, p to last 4 sts, k4.
Repeat these two rows until there are 28 sts on each side of center st, ending with purl Row.
Next Row: K1, sl1, k1, psso, continue increase pattern in center of work, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.
Next Row: Repeat Row 2 above.
Repeat these 2 rows 7 more times.
Next Row: K1, sl1, k1, psso; knit all sts (removing markers).
Next Row: K4, p across to last 4 sts, K4.
Next Row: Bind of in K. Weave in all ends.
